Yes, Matcha contains caffeine. Matcha comes from the plant Camellia sinensis, Caffeine is built into the molecular structure of this plant. One cup of matcha provides 34mg of caffeine, one cup of espresso coffee provides 60mg.

Unlike traditional green tea, Matcha is grown under the shade to avoid direct sunlight which increases chlorophyll content on the leaves. It is from hand-picked premium young leaves, steamed briefly to stop fermentation after the leaves are dried and then stone-ground into a fine powder. It takes one hour to grind 30-40 grams of ultra-fine powder.
When we are drinking matcha, we are actually getting the whole tea leaf’s nutrients and vitamins. Studies have shown that matcha has the nutritional value of up to 10 cups of regular green tea and up to 137 x the antioxidants of regular green tea. It’s great for an energy boost and mental focus.

The History of matcha dates back to the early 600’s.
Matcha was first used in religious ritual ceremony in Buddhist monasteries and very quickly favored by the monks because they noticed that in drinking matcha before their afternoon meditations, it enabled them to be more focused, centered, and maintain a level of sustained energy throughout the afternoon which they have never experienced before. It also brought them a greater sense of clarity and well-being benefits.
The Samurai warriors saw the remarkable benefits of this ceremonial tea and begun preparing and drinking matcha prior to going into battles for extra sustained energy and metal acuity. The foundation of tea ceremony was laid.
However, Matcha was extremely precious and only produced in small quantities back then, only the nobility had access to it.
In 1738, Sohen Nagatani developed the Japanese tea processing method that everyone agrees this process makes the best tasting tea and it enables a much more efficient process. This method is still in practice and use today. Sohen began to teach farmers the secret of this processing method. Thanks to his breakthrough, Matcha has became more accessible to the public.
Matcha is grown under the shade, so the leaves build up more chlorophyll and amino acid content which gives matcha it’s naturally delicate and sweet flavor.
When the harvest comes, we will hand pick the finest matcha leaves. Within 12 hours the leaves are carefully steamed which avoids fermentation. The steaming process lasts for about 15 and 20 seconds.
Once the Leaves finished the steaming process, they are cool down by a mild flow of air from the multi-chambered air machine. And then laid evenly over a conveyor belt and enter into the fire pit oven for further drying. The leaves will pass through a special drum-like machine where the veins and stem are separated from the main part of the leaf.
Finally we will stone grind the leaves into fine matcha powder.
